Rainbow Words (High Frequency Words)
High Frequency words are such an important part of your child's reading. Children that recognize high frequency words in and out of text are able to read with better comprehension and confidence. Each quarter a set of high frequency words are introduced through literary experiences. When a child masters all words for the quarter they earn a raindrop that is placed under our class rainbow. Each raindrop is colored coded to help keep track of words that we have learned. The following is a list of words that we have introduced this school year:
First Quarter Words (Purple raindrops): my, is, I, the, can, like
Second Quarter Words (Blue raindrops): will, be, we, see, to, go, have
Third Quarter Words (Green raindrops): look, here, do, not, what, you, are, and, because, come, was
Fourth Quarter Words (Orange raindrops): he, she, they, want, for
