During the past week your child has been actively involved in learning French through the use of gestures. Our story and song for this unit, Les trois petits cochons, which will eventually be performed as a play and accompanying song and dance, will be introduced as well. A DVD is available, containing all the gestured vocabulary for the three units this year, as well as the plays and dances performed by students. Students will also receive a word list and the text for the play and song.
The DVD is a valuable resource which parallels and supports the in-class French program. A few minutes spent each week watching different segments of this video would be a very beneficial review for your child. A suggested schedule for practice with the video will be posted in the class. The simple, easy-to-follow schedule is based on the activities on which students are working in class each week. You will notice that the number of things to watch increases through the weeks. This does not mean that more time needs to be spent on homework – the total time spent practicing with the video should be simply divided evenly among the different activities. Alternatively, one day an activity could be the focus, and another day your child could practice another component of the program. Don’t hesitate to ask your child to explain the various aspects of the DVD. Practicing the gestures with your child might be a lot of fun as well!
The DVD is available at a cost of $20 to those who are interested. Orders and money must be received by Friday, September 18th . The shipment will be coming in around October 1st.
