Week 19 & 20: Jan 10th - 20th

Welcome Back from the Christmas/New Year holiday break!

WEEK 19: Jan. 10-13

This week we finish our study of  Volcanoes (Chapter 5). The following standards will be addressed:

S6E5: Students will investigate the scientific view of how the earth's surface is formed. (Elements d, e, and f)

Students will have received and should have completed the Chapter 5  Handout. This handout should come to class with them everyday and will be included in the notebook grade on the day we test over this chapter.  If a student loses his/her handout, it is their responsibility to print another one from the FILES tab on this web page.

In this chapter, we will learn about the different types of volcanoes, the causes and effects of volcanic eruptions, and how scientists monitor volcanoes.  Our test over this chapter will be on Thursday.

I am changing my notebook policy for my 1st and 4th period classes.  At the beginning of the year I asked for each student to have a 1 inch binder for science that would come to class with them everyday.  Because I am having such an issue with students losing work and not being organized, I am now requiring that ALL students in my 1st or 4th period classes to have a binder or 3-prong folder that will STAY IN MY CLASSROOM everyday.  If they need to take finish our classwork at home, they will be allowed to take only that assignment from the classroom and will need to return it to the proper place in the binder/folder the next day.  I spent part of one class period helping those entire classes get their folders/binders in order.

Tuesday:  CW-Procedures and Volcanoes refresher ;  HW- Study for Thursday's Test

Wednesday:  CW-Volcano Review;  HW-Study for tomorrow's test!

WEEK 20: Jan. 17 - 20

Last week we finished our study of  Volcanoes (Chapter 5) and we will start Chapter 6: "Soil."  The following standards will be addressed:

S6E5: Students will investigate the scientific view of how the earth's surface is formed. (Elements  f, h,i, and j)

Students will receive the Chapter 6  Handout on Monday.   This handout should come to class with them everyday and if a student loses his/her handout, it is their responsibility to print another one from the FILES tab on this web page.  I will conduct a "Homework Check" over the Chpt 6 HO on Friday.

In this chapter, we will learn about rocks and the different forms of weathering and erosion.  We will also learn about how soil is formed and ways that we can help to conserve soil and our Earth.  The notebook check for Chapter 5 (Volcanoes) will be on Wednesday, Jan. 18th, and the test over this chapter will be on Tuesday of next week.

 Week 21: Jan. 23-27th

This week we will finish our study of Chapter 6: "Soil" and will begin our study of Chapter 7: "Erosion and Deposition."  The following standards are being addressed in this chapter:

S6E5: Students will investigate the scientific view of how the earth's surface is formed. (Elements  f,h,i, and j)

Students should have completed the Chapter 6  Handout and this handout should come to class with them everyday along with their science book and will be part of their notebook grade for this chapter.  They will receive the Chapter 7 Handout in Wednesday, and the same rules apply.  If a student loses his/her handout, it is their responsibility to print another one from the FILES tab on this web page.

In chapter 7, we will learn about different agents of erosion and the role that erosion and deposition play in the formation of  Earth's geographical features. The test over Chapter 7 will be on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week .
