Bayou View Middle School Bands
Beginning Band: This course is an introduction to instrumental music. Students learn to play traditional band instruments. This course is open to sixth and seventh grade students. Students present two concerts during the school year.
Seventh Grade Band: This course is a continuation of music reading skills, tone production, and ensemble playing. This course is open to seventh grade students who have successfully completed one year of band. Students are encouraged to audition for the Gulf Coast Band Director's Association Honor Band. These students have an opportunity to perform at various times during the school year, including pep rallies, middle school football games, and concerts.
Eighth Grade Band: This course is open to eighth grade students who have successfully completed one to two years of band. Students develop ensemble and individual playing skills. They are encouraged to audition for the Gulf Coast Band Director's Association Honor Band. Several performance opportunities are available to students in this class including pep rallies, football games, concerts, and festival.
Jazz Band: This course is open to eighth grade band students. Students learn basic fundamentals of jazz improvisation, and learn to play rock, blues, swing, funk, and latin styles of music. This group performs numerous times during the school year.
