Elementary Reading Workshop Syllabus

CourseDescription: The reading workshop class meets twice a week to provide thestudent with extra reading time. Students read independently, a self-selectedbook or the book they are reading in Language Arts class. Each student will write one book reportbefore the end of the quarter, following the book report guidelines and rubricprovided by the teacher.

FocusSkills: Working independently,communicating effectively.

Materials:Students must bring the book they are reading to each class session.

Spiritof the Classroom: Do your best work and be your best self. Treat others respectfully and with kindness. Remainseated, and keep the room quiet so everyone can read and concentrate. Neithereating nor drinking is permitted during class.

Book Talk: Give a book talk about a book you finished reading in Quarter 3, following the guidelines and rubric provided.

Participation: Come to class prepared to read; stay on task – and keep reading; maintain a quiet reading atmosphere – don’t distract others around you; uphold the Spirit of the Classroom.

You will receive up to 5 points for each class session.

You will receive 10 points for returning your signed syllabus on time.
