Language Arts 4/5
The students will work in all areas of the language arts: Reading, writing, speaking, and listening. They will learn and apply the steps of the writing process: Pre-write, draft, revise, edit, publish/present. Students will write communication journals, essays, poems and stories. Students will work on spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and dictionary skills. They will learn to use the proper proofreading and editing symbols. The class has been reading poetry together, and will soon begin reading A Lion to Guard Us by Clyde Robert Bulla. Students engage in free choice reading every day, and are expected to read at home as well. The goal is to develop life-long readers. Students will be presenting their work to the class and others, and learning to be confident speakers as well as active listeners.
