What follows is a copy of the rules, regulations, and grading policy for Physical Education here at Grasso.  This has been distributed to, completed by, and collected from all P.E. students this year at Grasso.

CLASS   REQUIREMENTS

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION/ POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

 

GENERAL: All students, including members of Grasso Tech's Athletic Teams are required to participate in physical education classes. Every student is responsible for obtaining appropriate gym attire.  Sneakers, shorts, T-shirts, socks, and a sweatshirt and/or warm up apparel should be brought to class.

 

INAPPROPRIATE CLOTHING: Lycra shorts, Lycra tights, bike shorts, half shirts, jeans, cut-off jeans, wife beater, tank tops, and stretch pants, as well as platform sneakers are not permitted. Since the gym is a Coed Situation shirts must be worn as all times.

 

EXPECTATIONS:  STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO REPORT TO CLASS ON TIME, PREPARED, AND ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THE ASSIGNED ACTIVITY

 

TO START: Proceed to your locker room and get changed immediately Secure your valuables (instructors are not responsible for lost or stolen items) Line up in alphabetical order so that Attendance can occur.  CIRCLE UP and Exercises will follow to help warm up muscles for the days activity

 

GRADING SYSTEM :Effective learning and playing takes place in a atmosphere where a student is responsible and tries to perform to the best of their ability .Physical Education grade will reflect the students acquired knowledge, and participation in class .All grades in this class are numerical per  school policy. All students wearing gym attire will start off the beginning of each marking period with 100 points for the course. In order to keep all 100 points the student needs to wear proper gym attire and try to participate nonstop to the best of your ability.in all required activities plus score above average grades on  the two written tests given each marking period.  (All tests will count 20% toward your grade.) Participate as well as performance in all physical activities including fitness skills,  team sports, and individual sports, Your grade is based by being actively moving, thinking and not passively sitting and chit chatting with friends) counts for= 75% toward your total grade ] Participation points are accumulated during each marking period. For example if there are ten points each class. Points will be deducted from ones final marking period grade for failure to dress out for class at the rate of –10 points per day. Failure to comply with the dress code and participation rules will result in an access assigned make up gym class that must occur within 10 days of date of that class in order for the zero to be made up .[ If a homework assignment is given it is worth 5%.]  IF A STUDENT FAILS PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR THE YEAR IT MUST BE MADE UP DURING SUMMER SCHOOL, A STUDENT MUST PASS PHYSICAL EDUCATION ALL FOUR YEARS TO GRADUATE.

 GRADING PROCEDURE Each student starts the marking period with a grade of 100. Points will be deducted for the following:a.      –10 points Unprepared/ Non participationb.     – 10 points Prepared/ Non participationc.     IF a student is ABSENT from class for any valid reason that student must make up the gym class during academic access within 10 days of the date the absence occurred or else the zero will remains at -10d.     IF a student has 9 zeros at any point in time during the school year denial of credit for Physical Education will occur for that student.

ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THE ASSIGNED ACTIVITY

YOU ARE GRADED ON PARTICIPATION, NOT HOW GOOD YOU ARE IN A PARTICULAR ACTIVITY. YOU WILL GET CREDIT FOR TRYING.

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION SIGN-IN SHEET FOR NOT DRESSING; If at any time at Grasso you do not dress for your physical education class [for any reason] you must fill out the information on this sheet. This information will be kept in your personal file for future reference. Give this sheet back to your instructor immediately after you have filled it out. If you have a medical excuse you must still fill out this sheet plus it must be accompanied by a note from your doctor.

 MEDICALLY EXCUSED STUDENT MUST COMPLETE AN ALTERNATE WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT TO BE ARRANGED WITH THE INSTRUCTOR 

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS: for students who are medically excused from participating in physical education due to a  doctor’s medical note. These medically excused students are required to take all written tests and do all homework assignments with their class. The student is responsible for all lessons being taught in class in order to receive a grade for the performance aspect. of class. This student assignment will be to write a ten page hand written report on a sport topic approved by your instructor.. A student that is excused by the school nurse on a given day is required to write a report of at least 200words on any sport topic due the next class! Appropriate class-related written work is required because even medically excused students must pass physical education all four years. Specific report will only be allowed for doctor signed medically excused student . Reports are not considered a means of getting extra credit for physical education or rewarding a student whom forgot gym attire and just lost 10 points off of their grade because they forgot .If a medically excused student does not submit written work before the end of the marking period the student will receive an F/40 for a grade .

 

SAFETY: In order to ensure all students safety and the safety of others, students are expected to conduct themselves in the proper manner in the locker room, in the gymnasium, and outside on the playing fields. Students who engage in dangerous or disruptive behavior will be liable for disciplinary action according to the provisions of the State’s disciplinary policy and the student handbook code. Several behaviors considered to be unacceptable include:

1)       Abusing the equipment

2)       Failure to follow instructions

3)       Disrespectful behavior to instructors or to students (ex. swearing, or rudeness)

4)       Horseplay in gym or locker room or outdoors on the playing fields. Keep your hands and feet to yourself. (no hitting, punching, pushing, or tag playing)

5)       Arriving late to class without a signed pass

6)       Leaving class early without permission and without a signed pass

 7)  No gum chewing, soda, drink,candy, or food is allowed in the gymnasium

A SAFE ENVIRONMENT IS VERY IMPORTANT, PLEASE FOLLOW ALL RULES

DO NOT USE EQUIPMENT WITHOUT INSTRUCTOR’S PERMISSIONDO NOT HANG ON RIMS, BACKBOARDS, JUMP OFF BLEACHERS OR STAGE, KICK VOLLEYBALLS.  NO HORSEPLAY (i.e.) wrestling, fighting, pushing,) WILL BE TOLERATED

STAY IN YOUR ASSIGNED AREA (do not leave class to go to the locker room without the instructors permission)

 

REPORT ALL INJURIES TO THE INSTRUCTOR IMMEDIATELY

NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN THE WEIGHT ROOM UNSUPERVISED 

LOCKERS: Bringing valuables to physical education classes are not a good idea. The responsibility .for loss of personal possessions resides with each student. Do not bring items of important value to you to class. Do not bring money to class. If you have money do not tell anyone, but do lock it up  All personal items, backpacks, books, writing materials and coats must be left in the locker room during class.[ Exceptions may be granted by the instructor due to weather/heating emergencies or testing. If you lose an issued lock, you are responsible for $8.00 to replace it.

 

TO FINISH CLASS

The instructor will let you know when to change (usually 5 minutes before the bell rings)

Go to your locker room, change clothes and wait for the bell to ring.

Then Proceed to your next class
