Mathcounts
Mathcounts is a nationally recognized organization that “provides the extra incentive and the perfect atmosphere for students to push themselves to achieve more in mathematics. Consisting of fun and creative problems that promote critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, the MATHCOUNTS competitions have written and oral rounds, as well as individual and team components. Though challenging and non-routine, the competition problems focus on the 6th through 8th grade standards of the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics”, (copied from the Mathcounts website, www.mathcounts.org).
The Art Of Problem Solving
The following introduction was copied directly from the Art of Problem Solving website located at the address, www.artofproblemsolving.com
Greetings, Art of Problem Solving develops educational resources and opportunities for outstanding math-ematics students in grades 5-12. Our website, www.artofproblemsolving.com, is the largest onlinecommunity of top math students, with over 65,000 members who have contributed over 1,700,000 messages to our Forum. Our texts and online school are used by many of the winning students and teams in MATHCOUNTS, the AMC, and other problem solving competitions. Our instructors and textbookauthors are all past winners of major mathematics and science competitions. We have developed a new, innovative instructional product called Alcumus. Alcumus consists ofa database of challenging problems and online lessons designed specifically for high-performing math students. Alcumus is currently being developed for middle school students. Problems and lessons cover topics in the standard math curriculum as well as challenging problem-solving extensions of the curriculum such as those found in MATHCOUNTS. Alcumus features a collection of problems from MATHCOUNTS competitions and School Handbooks, the Art of Problem Solving textbooks, and the American Mathematics Competitions. Alcumus is carefully calibrated to choose the appropriate problems and lessons for each student based on his or her past performance. Therefore, Alcumus o Alcumus currently consists of a database of over 5000 problems with full solutions, and several dozen video lessons. We will continue to add more features, video lessons, and problems to Alcumus. Alcumus also includes teacher tools that allow the teachers to monitor student progress. To access Alcumus, visit www.artofproblemsolving.com and click Alcumus. If you have any questions about Alcumus, or about any of our work at Art of Problem Solving, please contact us at aops@artofproblemsolving.com. Sincerely, Richard Rusczyk AoPS Incorporated rusczyk@artofproblemsolving.com
