Welcome Back!

Hello, Hello, Hello!!!!

Welcome back to another school year at E.A. Cox Middle School!  I am Mrs. Jackson!  This is my first year here at Cox.  Actually, it is my first year in Columbia!  My family and I just moved here from Roane County, TN.  I taught at Harriman Middle School for the last couple of years.  Prior to that, we lived in Louisville, KY, where I taught for 4 years.

I am so very excited to be here!  I have fallen in love with Columbia as has my family.  I have a husband who recently retired from teaching.  He taught high school English for 14 years.  He had to retire due to some health complications.  I also have four beautiful kids, if I do say so myself!  I have a 19 year old daughter, Delia.  She is a Sophomore at Eastern Kentucky University, pursuing a degree in Sign Language Interpreting.  I have another daughter, Brooke, who is counting down the days, literally, until she gets her driver's license.  She is a Sophomore at Central High School where she is active in the band.  I have one more daughter, Maggie, who is 4 and a half years old.  She is what I call a 'sassafrass!'  She is smarter than all of us put together and doesn't mind letting us know that!  Then, last but certainly not least, I have ONE beautiful little boy, Noah.  He is a year and a half old.  The problem is, he thinks he is also smarter than everyone else.  So, he and Maggie struggle a little with who is really the boss!  haha

As you can plainly see, my life is full and richly blessed.  We are looking forward to many years here in Columbia.  We hope to settle here and watch our kids grow along with yours.

I will post assignments on the webpage daily, so if you miss a day, you can see what you missed!  Take care, and have a great year!

Update...February 15

Hi guys!  I just thought I'd send you a LONG overdue update on how our world is going here at E. A. Cox Middle School.  I also want to give you a few reminders.  We have been having a great year in our classes thus far.  I would like to send out a request challenge for our parents and students.  As we've worked our way through basic math on into fractions and decimals, it is painfully obvious, that several of our students are lacking knowledge of their basic math facts, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  If you could, please spend any free time you might have, be it in the car, before or after dinner, or whenever and wherever you might be quizzing your student on these basic facts up through the twelves.  We drill on them the last 5 minutes of class or so every day as well, however, some of our kiddos need to be innundated with these facts on a daily basis.  Any help you could be in this matter will greatly improve their chances for success in higher level mathematics from here on out.  They will not be able to move forward in their upper grades without knowing these facts.

Also, please be advised that the T-CAP test is coming up in March.  Please, try to refrain from planning any unnecessary extra activities for that week.  I understand church and some other activities cannot be avoided.  But, if you could please ensure that the students have a good dinner and breakfast and get plenty of sleep, it would be to their benefit in a major way!  :)

Lastly, do not forget that the information on the parent portal has been sent home along with your userid and passcode.  Feel free to take a gander at this portal and do not hesitate to e-mail with any questions or concerns.

I am absolutely enjoying my time here at Cox thus far and having your students in my class has been nothing short of a blessing!  Take care and have a good week!

Update - March 18, 2010

Hello, ladies and gentlemen,

I just wanted to give you a quick reminder that our T-CAP tests begin next week, the 22nd of March.  We will be testing from Monday, the 22nd until Friday, the 26th.  Please make sure that the kids get a healthy breakfast every morning and that they go to bed early at night.  We want them refreshed and focused for these important tests.  Thank you for all you do and have a great week.
