PROGRESS REPORTS AND ASSIGNMENTS

PROGRESS REPORTS HAVE BEEN DISTRIBUTED.  They must be signed by a parent and turned in by Monday, Sept. 22.

Students may turn in assignments that are missing or have zeros BUT THEY MUST STAY AFTER SCHOOL TO DO THE ASSIGNMENT AND TURN IT IN.  This is to ensure that students actually do the work and don't just copy a friend's paper and turn it in.  The deadline to turn in work is Tuesday, October 7 at 2:30 pm.

CLASS RULES AND PROCEDURES

Welcome

I welcome you to the world of the Spanish speakers!  You will learn about new and different aspects of speaking, reading, and interpreting language.  You will also learn about other cultures, hopefully becoming more open-minded in your thinking, and have an appreciation of cultures different from your own.

Expectations of students

I will expect you to give your best effort, every day, during the entire class time.  I expect your written work to be neat and legible.  I also expect all students to be courteous  and respectful to me and to one another.

Course expectations

In Spanish, you will be expected to take notes, and participate in discussion and listening activities.  You are also expected to complete homework assignments, short daily assignments, classwork, quizzes/tests, and a few projects.  You will also work in pairs or groups, so cooperation with classmates is of the utmost importance.  We will do reading, writing, listening, speaking, and cultural activities in this class.  Because language learning involves learning new words and concepts, as well as building on what you’ve learned already, you should commit to studying Spanish at least 20 minutes each day, even if an assignment hasn’t been given.

Classroom behavior

You are expected to behave in a manner that is consistent with school rules/policies and by which high school students are expected in a classroom.  I will make notes of inappropriate behaviors on a DAILY BASIS and refer to them when discussing your behavior with your parents or an administrator.

4.  Bring any admit slips to me at the beginning of class/while I’m taking roll.

5.   Students must remain quiet during any announcements on the intercom.

6.  You must maintain a notebook for this class, and it must ONLY contain work done for Spanish class.  Notebook checks wil be done at random.

7.  Bring all materials (including notebook/paper, pen, workbook, and book) to class with you everyday.

Grading procedures

Grades are based on a point total. Each assignment is worth a different number of points.

You will be given rubrics for many assignments before hand to indicate how your work will be graded.

Nine-week grades are as such: 93-100 A; 85-92 B; 75-84 C 70-74 D

Making up assignments

Check with me upon your return for make-up work.  Handouts will be in the extra copies/handout crate on the table in the room.  Please understand that for some assignments, you  “have to be  in class” (like with  pair or listening activities)  there is no way to do the same assignment unless you stay after school.  WIth excused absences, those assignments don’t count against your average.
