Lea Bellon

Lea Bellon

Welcome to 28th Street Elementary!  My name is Lea Bellon and I am the principal of this wonderful Kindergarten - Fifth grade school.  I have lived in Gulfport my entire life and I am proud to be a product of the Gulfport School District.  I have a very supportive husband, Ron Bellon,  who is retired from the business world and a Veteran who served as an Officer in the Army National Guard and we have two beautiful daughters, Meredith and Lucy who you'll often see with me attending school events such as football games, family nights, and fall festival events.

I've been an educator in the Gulfport School District for 20 years.  I began my career  in Gulfport at Central Elementary as a teacher’s assistant while working on my degree at the University of Southern Mississippi.  Upon graduating from USM I began teaching at West Elementary where I served for 10 years as classroom teacher and team leader.   As teacher, I was awarded Teacher of the Year, Master Teacher for both Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math, and several School to Career Grants.

I began my career as an administrator in 2003 as Assistant Principal of Pass Road Elementary and then went on to serve as the Administrator of the Nathan Walker 6th Grade Academy at Bayou View Middle School.  I am currently in my third year as principal of 28th Street Elementary and look forward to many more.

I  recently obtained my Specialists Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi and plan to continue my education towards a Doctorate in the near future.
