Dear Parents,

Welcome Letter

August 26, 2008 Dear Parents, It is my great privilege to be teaching your children this year. We will strive in every way possible to grow spiritually and academically.  I will be teaching Seventh Grade Religion and this course is about Jesus and his life and teachings. Homework will be infrequent but some in-class assignments may have to be completed at home. We will also begin preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation; there will be a meeting at St Mary Church. The grading for this class is tests, 50%; quiz/project, 30% and homework/class participation, 20%.  The goal of Sixth Grade Math is to make the students comfortable with mathematical concepts. We have brand new texts book this year which must be covered at all times  We will emphasize critical thinking, number sense, geometry, probability, statistics, fractions and decimals. Homework will be given just about every weeknight. I am available before and after school and at Study Hall for extra help. I do not want the students spending hours on their homework. If a student has trouble with a concept, please have them spend no more than ten minutes on it; any longer can lead to frustration.  Homework is checked but not graded by me. If a student misses more than three homework assignments in any quarter, parents will be notified. Progress reports will be given out every quarter and sent home with Interims. These are to be signed and returned along with any tests and quizzes. Pop quizzes will be given. I drop the lowest quiz grade of the quarter. Grading for this class is: test, 50% quizzes, 30% and homework, 20%.  In Physical Science we will explore the world of Physics and Chemistry with many hands-on activities. The students will participate in the Holy Cross Academy Science Fair that will be held in late February or early March. The Diocesan Science Fair will be held in April. Work on the projects will begin in November. Science Fair projects count as two test grades in the third quarter. The students will be required to keep a graph book that will be graded the last week of every quarter. The grading for this course is tests, 50%; quizzes 20%; homework, 20%; graph book, 10%.              Communication between parents and teachers is very important and I can be reached by email at eileen.lanzarone@gmail.com or at the school voice mail, extension 140.  I have a website at www.schoolrack.com/lanzarone71HCA/ where I will post reminders about special school events and changes in the schedule.  I will be happy to meet with any parent but I would ask you to call or email to make an appointment. 7-1 is my homeroom and we will be providing lunches for the Thurman Brisbane homeless shelter on October 21st and April 28th. I would love to have a parent help me coordinate this and deliver the lunches to the shelter. Please let me know if you can help.  I look forward to working with you to make this a great year for your children.

                                                                                    Gratefully,

                                                                                    Mrs. Eileen Lanzarone
