Discipline / Rules

As I firmly believe that life-long success depends on self-discipline, I have developed a classroom discipline plan that affords every student the opportunity to manage his or her own behavior. Your child deserves the most positive educational climate possible for academic growth. Therefore, this plan will be in effect at all times.

Classroom reminders

1. Listen carefully and follow directions the first time given.

2. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.

3. Raise hand to be recognized before speaking.

4. Use kind language and an inside voice.

5. Remain seated during teaching.

Rewards

To incorporate real life experiences into the classroom, I developed a money system for rewarding good behavior. If student's "employ" good behavior, I reward them by handing out play pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, or dollar bills.

Auction: The class auction is held at the end of each quarter. Students who have saved money may purchase items brought in.

Class Store: A classroom list of small rewards are posted in the room. Students may save their money or buy something from the store which is open on Fridays. Examples of items are: Early to lunch, hoop shoot, free time on computers, popcorn, pencils, etc.

Appropriate behavior will also be encouraged by praise, positive notes and phone calls home.

3 checks = detention

4 checks = parent phone call / principal

Management Charts

I believe that parent involvement is essential for successful classroom management. To insure this each student has a chart at his or her desk. The student uses the chart to monitor his or her behavior and record any warnings for checks for the week. At the end of every week the charts go home for a parent to sign and review. If a student returns his or her slip the following Monday, signed by a parent, they receive 25¢ of store money. If they did not receive any checks for the week, the chart goes in for an addtional drawing.
