Homework Policy

Homework Policy

Homework will be assigned EVERY night Monday – Thursday, starting on August 23, 2011.  There will be no homework on Fridays.  Each student will write their homework assignments in their agenda nightly and must return their homework the next day – no exceptions.  If their homework is not turned in I will give them a new copy and they will complete it at recess.

It is the child’s responsibility to get their homework done, not the parents.  All homework that is sent home will be review for the student.  Each assignment should be done independently with little or no assistance from the parent.  Do not hesitate to help your child with their homework, but please do not complete the assignments for them.  If you are doing the homework I have no way of knowing that your child is struggling with assignments.  Homework is an extension of the classroom and if a student consistently complete their assignment their grades will reflect their efforts.

Agenda Policy

Agendas

Each student will receive an agenda from school.  Students will write homework assignments and reminders in their agenda everyday.  This will also serve as another line of communication between parent and teacher.  Please check your child’s agenda every night!  Please feel free to write notes to me directly in your child’s agenda and I will respond to them that same day, this is probably the best way to contact me.

Classroom Rules, Incentives, and Consequences

Class Rules:

 1.  Listen when others are talking.

2.  Follow directions.

3.  Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

4.  work quietly and do not disturb others.

5.  Show respect for school and personal property.

6.  Work and play in a safe manner.

Incentives/Consequences:

Appropriate behavior is expected in the classroom, as well as all areas of the school.  We have whole class rewards and individual rewards that students can earn for their behavior including a compliment jar and a hit chart.

If a student is making excellent choices at any time throughout the day, they will receive a “hit.”  This means the student is going above and beyond my expectations at that particular moment.  They may receive as many hits as they earn for that day!  Once the student places a “hit” sticker in the column with a star, they will receive a reward from our treasure box at the end of the day.  Also, any student that has an absolutely positive day and does not have to change their card…they will receive a “hit” from me at the end of the each day!  Our classroom also has a “Compliment Jar”.  Anytime anyone gives the class a compliment whether inside the room or outside in the hallway, a handful of rocks are placed inside the jar.  When the jar is full, we have a class party that the students will vote on.

Consequences for inappropriate behavior are as follows:

 1st offense – verbal warning

2nd offense – lose 10 minutes of recess

3rd offense – lose 20 minutes of recess

4th offense – lose whole recess, note/phone call home

Any other offenses/Severe offenses – principal referral and phone call home
