The Science Fair was a great success! All of the student project's looked fantastic and every one did such a wonderful job on their presentations! I'm already looking for next year's Science Fair!
Parents, I hope that you were all able to drop by to see your child's project. I am very proud of their work and you have every reason to be proud as well.
Again, a very special thank you to those parents who volunteered their time and talents. Without your help, we could not have had a successful Science Fair.

Hello Parents and Students,
The Science Fair, on Friday, Jan. 28th, is rapidly approaching. This past week we worked on science fair projects in class and will do so this week as well.
All Science Fair display boards and lab reports are due this Friday, Jan 14th.
Please select the following link for the lab report rubric. This report is worth 100 points.
Science Fair Lab Report Rubric
Students are working hard on their projects and I am excited and impressed on how fantastic their work looks. However, there are still students who are not bringing their science fair projects to class to work on. In addition, several students have not followed the display board format as outlined in class and in the science fair guidelines. Please ensure that you have followed the science fair guidelines to avoid penalties.
This week, students will conduct mock presentations of their projects to one another. I will monitor these practice presentations to ensure that students are comfortable and well prepared for the judges. All middle school students are expected to participate in the Science Fair. I have also explained that students who fail to complete their projects will still present what they have to the judges. So please, be certain to avoid this by being well prepared and with a complete project.
This is a particulary stressful time for many of my students and this is why two weeks of in class preparation is important. Not only am I available for help, but classmates are available and willing to provide additional assistance.
Please feel free to email me any questions or concerns.
Blessings,
Mrs. Kim Moritz

Dear Parents and Students,
I hope that you are all enjoying your holiday break and spending time with your family and friends.
Please remember to replace the interpretation on the display format example with your bibliography. For those of you working on your lab reports, please ensure that your report follows the steps within the scientific method.
The steps of the scientific method are to:
- Ask a Question (Introduction)
- Do Background Research (Research and Bibliography)
- Construct a Hypothesis
- Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment (Materials and Procedures)
- Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion
- Communicate Your Results (Lab Report)
If you need of science equipment for your project, there is a science store located in Santa Clara. Refer to the following link: http://www.scienceshopusa.com/
There is also an online store: http://www.schoolmasters.com/
Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
Happy Holidays,
Mrs. Moritz

Hello Parents and Students,
The display boards are here!
Students will receive their boards on Monday, Dec. 13th in time to work on their projects over the holiday break (if able). Please be aware that there are no replacement boards. If a board is damaged, it is the student's responsibility to purchase a new board that meets science fair height and width requirements. (32" height X 48" width)
Painting the display boards is fine, however, spray paint is recommended for a smooth appearance. Remember to use spray paint in open and well-ventilated areas with parent supervison.
I will continue to provide students the opportunity to work on their boards in class. I will let them know when to bring in their materials and I will provide additonal materials for them as well.
Important:
Please ensure that science fair projects conform to the following format -
It is very disheartening for students to work so hard on their projects only to be disqualified from judging because their display board doesn't follow the assigned format.
Also, don't forget the following due dates:
Observations and Results recorded Jan.7th
(this includes data, graphs, charts, photos, etc.)
Data Analysis and Conclusions Jan. 7th
Completed Display Board Jan 14th
(All information present and creativity points)
Final Written Report (5 main Sections) Jan. 14th
Have the Happiest of Holidays!
Blessings,
Mrs. Kim Moritz

I have entered the grades for the following. If you have turned in these assignments but do not see a grade, please see me asap.
Final Hypothesis 10 pts
Research/Bibliography 20 pts
Materials/Procedures 20 pts
I have a number of students who are either missing one or all of their science fair assignments. I have spoken to many of these students regarding my concerns regarding the timely completion of their science fair project and the impact any missing assignments will have on their grade. I have informed my students that I will need to have their missing assignments no later than Friday, Dec. 10th. If there is still a missing science fair assignment as of 12/10, I will email parents as well as a letter requiring a parent signature. This is to insure that all students understand the importance of completing their projects and to encourage them to complete these assignments before the Christmas break.
I am also looking for volunteers to provide their talents as judges for the science fair. This is a fantastic opportunity to receive community service hours as well free breakfast and lunch!
