Hello! My name is Kim LeMere, and I am a native of Hattiesburg, Miss. I have lived in the Gulfport area for 16 years. My husband, Douglas LeMere, is retired from the US Navy. He works for Ben Radcliff Contractors as a Project Manager. My family and I have also lived in Catania, Sicily, Jacksonville, Fla., and Washington DC. My son (Jeremy) was born in Naples, Italy. I have three children: Jeremy, Elizabeth and Phillip. Jeremy recently graduated from college, and Elizabeth, is a junior at Mississippi State University. Phillip is a 9th grader.
I have been a special education teacher in the Life Skills Class for 12 years. I have taught at Bayou View Elementary since 2002. I have also worked at Central Elementary in the Gulfport School District as a special education teacher. I graduated from George Mason University, Fairfax, Va., with a BA in History/Secondary Education in 1991. I received my Masters Degree in Special Education (Mild, Moderate) from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, Miss., in 2001. I am certified to teach secondary education (7-12), elementary education (K-8), and special education (mild, moderate) (K-12). I have worked with children with all types of disabilities. I have attended numerous workshops/trainings in the area of autism as well as workshops/trainings in the area of teaching students with varying disabilities. I have also received training in the TEACCH Method for children with autism. I have taken a sign language class to help teach functional signs to children that are nonverbal. I have a lot of experience teaching students with behavioral difficulty.
I am an avid reader, and I like to walk and exercise to relieve stress. I also like to shop and travel in my spare time. I enjoy working with students with disabilities. You are welcome to visit my class anytime.
