Kim LeMere

Biography

Hello!  My name is Kim LeMere, and I am a native of Hattiesburg, Miss.  I have lived in the Gulfport area for 18 years.  My husband, Douglas LeMere, is retired from the US Navy.  He works at Stennis Space Center as a Communication Specialist.  While my husband was in the military, my family and I have lived in Catania, Sicily, Jacksonville, Fla., and Washington DC.  When we lived in Sicily, we were able to travel throughout Europe, which I enjoyed very much.  My son (Jeremy) was born in Naples, Italy.  I have three children:  Jeremy, Elizabeth and Phillip.  Jeremy recently graduated from Mississippi State University (MSU) with a MBA in Business, Elizabeth will graduate from MSU in May, and Phillip, is a 11th grader.

I have been a special education teacher in the Life Skills Class for 14.5 years.  I have taught at Bayou View Elementary since 2002.  I have also worked at Central Elementary in the Gulfport School District as a special education teacher.  I graduated from GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY, Fairfax, Va., and received a Bachelor of Arts in history/secondary education in 1991.  I was also accepted and attended the Teacher Graduate Program at MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY in Arlington, VA; however,  I received a Master of Education in special education from the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI, Hattiesburg, Miss., in 2001.   I am certified to teach secondary education (7-12), elementary education (K-8), and special education (mild, moderate)  (K-12).   I have worked with children with all types of disabilities.  I have attended numerous workshops for children with autism and other varying disabilities.   I have also received training in the TEACCH Method.  Also,  I have taken a sign language class to help teach functional signs to children that are nonverbal.   I have a lot of experience teaching students with behavioral difficulty.

I am an avid reader, and I like to walk and exercise to relieve stress.  I also like to shop and travel in my spare time.  I enjoy working with students with disabilities.

You are welcome to visit my class anytime.  If you have any questions, you can reach me in my classroom (after 2:30pm) at 868-2150.
