Please catch up on your reading over the break.
When your child is absent, please make sure that he/she touches base with the teacher in order to get assignments made up in a timely manner. This benefits students greatly.
The writing workshop will start after the Thanksgiving break. Students must make contact with me and let me know a day in advance when they plan to stay. The days will be Tuesdays and Thursday (2:30 to 3:00).
In order to reach our million-word goal this 2009-2010 school year, students will participate in a reading program. The Language Arts teacher will provide students with three book selections. Students will pick one book, and read it within the semester. The students will be assessed on the book, they selected, at the end of the semester. Each semester, students will have three new book selections, and they will be assessed on the book they selected. Below are the book selections for the first semester. Students are responsible for obtaining the book (parents may help the child with this). Students will be given their assessment date for the fall book selections at a later date; however, it will be around the end of the fall semester (December).

Remember that your nine week's reading activities will be due around the same time as the assignment above. You will follow the same instructions you followed the first nine weeks. You will present and be assessed the week of December 14th.
