Greek and Latin Roots

Yesterday I introduced Greek and Latin Roots to the students. The students have a worksheet with 20 Greek and Latin Roots on them, in which 5 will be filled out each week. We will be using the roots in sentences and playing a review game before the quiz (the quiz should occur around the middle of December). I suggested to the students that each night before they go to bed or in the morning to review the Greek and Latin Roots. This will ensure their understanding of the roots and help them as more roots are defined on their list. Look under file to the see the worksheet for the Greek and Latin Roots.

Students now all have accounts to Quia (and have been given their log in name with a password), a web based resource that allows students to take quizzes, do activities, and find resources on their own to help them with their studies. I have posted educational games to help students study for their Greek and Latin root quizzes on this site. It is a fun way to become familiar with the root words!

Membean

I was able to secure a year free contract with the site membean. This is a great vocabulary site that takes different root words, prefixes, and suffixes and uses them in different ways. There are games to play and stories to read.

The site is http://membean.com/schools/fortkent

To log into this site you need to type your user name which is your proper first name, under score, last name, underscore, fortkent

Example: samuel_higgens_fortkent

Your initial password is the same as your user name. You will be prompted to change this once you log in.

Tell me your thoughts on this site when you have a chance! Personally, I love it!

The URL above is for week 2 of Greek and Latin Roots. This presentation gives the students the root, the meaning, and examples. The students have a worksheet that we are filling out each week. If they loose the worksheet or are absent they are responsible for either asking another student or myself for the roots that need to be filled in. I have reminded students that they should be studying each evening (just for five minutes or so) to be prepared for the exam in mid-December or for a pop-quiz.
