I tutor every morning from 7:00 to 8:15, if your child feels that he or she needs help on the material.

This year, I will be learning along with your student to involve the latest technology in their education.  I hope this will be an exciting, challenging year for your student as well as for myself!

Dear Parents

August 22, 2011

Dear Parent,

Welcome to a new school year.  My name is Kathy Abbett and I am your child’s Math teacher.  I am writing to acquaint you with my goals for the coming year and the expectations I have concerning your child.  I want to all that is possible to help your student attain the goals that he/she has set for himself.  I know with our support, the children here can reach those goals.  I hope to show them the many ways that math figures into their lives and into their future careers.

My primary goal is to teach your child the mathematics necessary to succeed in life and on the job.  Your child and I will be learning new technology together as we learn the math. Your child will need a solid mathematical background whether they proceed to further their education after high school or they directly begin a profession.  In addition, I will also concentrate on modeling responsibility and self-discipline.  In advisory, as well in each class, we will be working on your student’s skills for the ACT.  This test is very important to your child’s future, as it can determine where they go from here and the amount of scholarship money they can earn.

To realize these goals, it will be necessary to maintain the best possible atmosphere to ensure the greatest amount of learning.  I will therefore ask that your child follow these rules in the classroom.  First, be prepared for class.  This includes being on time, bringing the proper materials, and having homework assignments ready to turn in.  Secondly, I ask that students respect others and their property.  This includes listening when others are speaking and being patient when others work at a different pace than themselves.  Finally, I ask that they respect the furniture and equipment in the classroom.  I am happy to have graphing calculators and other supplies available to the students and hope to be able to as long as they are in my class.

As a parent, I know that you wish success for your child.  Please help to make sure your child has completed assigned homework and studied reviews thoroughly before tests.  Also, your child needs a scientific calculator to use at home as well as in class.  Students do their best when they are able to use a calculator that they are familiar with.  To keep the student informed, progress reports are given out every Thursday. I will also place the daily assignments in my voice mail.

If you feel that I can be helpful to your child in any other way, please feel free to call me at school either before 8:10 AM or after 2:50 PM.  I am also available from 12:54 to 1:50 each day.  I hope your child enjoys class this year and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Kathy Abbett
