Week 2 Excell and Input devices

Day 1

1. Create a spreadsheet that can be used to replace the paper based system that manages a DVD shop

a. Choose a name for your shop.

b. Open Excel workbook and create the necessary fields that will be required to keep track of customers. Fill in the details for 5 customers.
Rename the sheet appropriately

c. Create a new sheet that lists DVDs. Include fields for serial no., rating, genre, rental fee and replacement cost. Fill in the details for 5 DVDs.

Day 2 (Read page 14 to 21 to answer questions)

1. Name 4 types of keyboard layout.

2. Scanners need at least 2 types of software programs to allow for the scanning of documents and graphics Name the software, and any extra programs that could be useful.

3. Name a pointing device that a person with little control over their fingers may use.

4. Name 2 type of input devices that customers can use at supermarket checkout counters.

5. Name an input device that can be used to count votes on ballot papers in an election.

6. Propose 2 ways in which a punched card may be read by a computer.

7. Explain the difference between OMR and OCR.

8. Name an input device suitable for paraplegic people who cannot move their upper body at all.

 

Day 3

1. Complete the previous spreadsheet for your DVD shop.

 

2. On sheet one of workbook you must include a user listing with relevant data (user number, contact details, contract or not, notes), to log DVD loans.

 

3. On sheet 2 make a list of DVD,s with info on each disk. This should include: a 4 digit serial number, Name, Replacement cost, Rating, genre, Rental fee.

 

 

4. On sheet 3 make an invoice to issue for rentals. Use the vlookup function (textbook P 262) in Excel to pull the user and DVD data for the invoice.
