We have had a fabulous 2011-2012 school year.  :) I know every student is prepared to be successful next year.  As I always say with each passing year, Room 204 will always be part of who you are.  Remember,  Mrs. Root-Smith is not going away.  I am always watching and here for you should you ever need me.   Make me proud!!!  Enjoy your summer, relax, play, study multiplication facts, and read a book!!!!!

Progress Reports will come home every Friday!!!  Please make sure your child is doing their work every night.  If they do not finish something in class; they must finish it at home to receive credit. The message is simple; stay focused, do all your work, ask for help when needed and you are sure to see grades you like. :) Please continue to repeat this message at home.

The thermometer's readings keep going up and down. Please listen to the weather each night or morning and dress appropriately.  We want to keep all our students & staff healthy and in school each and everyday.

Also, if your child is feeling ill (especially stomach issues,) keep them home for a day until they are feeling 100%.  It's always better safe than sorry.  Please remember: if your child has a fever; they cannot return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours.

Meet Your Teacher

Meet Your Teacher!!!!

My name is Mrs. Root-Smith.  This is my fifth year teaching and also my fifth year at Bernard Long.  I enjoy every single day in the classroom.  I graduated from Southern Illinois University @ Edwardsville in May '07. I received the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award in 2010.  I am currently working on my Masters degree in Curriculum & Instruction @ SIUE.  When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking my adorable Shiba Inu Puppy Kota Bear and my sweet Chihuahua Puppy Sophie Bear, attending or watching Cardinals baseball games & Blues Hockey Games, and shopping either online or in-store.  I am an aunt and will have a new neice or nephew later this school year.  I am always available if you have any questions or concerns.  I check my email several times a day, making it a great tool to use for communication with me.  Please don't hesitate to contact me.
