No Child Left Behind Back to All Pages »

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our school district is committed to providing a high-quality education program for your child, and the schools are working hard to provide programs to help all students succeed. As part of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation, a school report has been compiled for the 2005/2006 school year. This report gives you information about how our school as rated in the state grading system and in the federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) criteria. If you would like more information regarding our school and how it compared to all schools in the district, please visit the Florida Department of Education's web site at http://schoolgrades.fldoe.org/ or the school district web site at http://www.escambia.k12.fl.us. Our School Improvement Plan is also available at these sites.

Another way to know about our school is the School Public Accountability Report (SPAR) which is available at the school or on line at http://doeweb-prd.doe.state.fl.us/eds/nclbspar/index.cfm.

Please compare our school's test scores to the district (Reading - 53%, Mathematics - 53%, and Writing - 89%) and the state (Reading - 57%, Mathematics - 61%, and Writing - 90%).

Our school is committed to providing exciting and effective programs that will make the 2006-2007 school year more successful. Some of these programs include the following:

* Double block reading classes for Level 1 and 2 readers
* Before and after school remediation,
* Peer group (student government) tutoring after school,
* Special small math classes for targeted students,
* Computer-assisted learning (SuccessMakrer and other software),
* State provided FCAT practice material
* Community Drug and Alcohol Council academic assistance program, and
* Mentoring

Your are very important to your child's education. "In fact, many studies show that what the family does is more important to a child's school success than how much money the family makes or how much education the parent has. By showing interest in your child's educaiton, the parent can spark enthusiasm . . . and this leads to an understanding that learning is well worth the effort required." (US Department of Education)

As you look at our subgroups' scores you will see some of them need to improve. Parents, here are some ways you can help your child be successful at our schoo this year:

* Setting aside specific study time nightly and a specific study place,
* Have your child read 15-30 minutes nightly,
* Requiring your child to have hiss/her planner initialed daily by their teachers and checked by you,
* Checking homework assignments for completeness and correctness,
* Marking a calendar with test dates and reviewing with your child for those test,
* Request or attend a parent/teacher conference,
* Ensure that your child is on time to school and class, and
* Become involved in our school as a mentor or volunteer

At our school, every teacher has a valid teaching certificat from the State of Florida. In addition, 88.9% of our classes are taught by teachers who meet the additional requirements of being "highly qualified" (HQT) by NCLB standards. Other teachers are receiving additional training to meet the federal requirements.

As we begin this school year, we have high expectations for meeting our goals, and our staff looks forward to working with you and your child. Please contact the school if you have questions or concerns.
