The following is the grading policy:
A weighted grade average will be used to determine your grade for the marking period. Make every effort to earn maximum points for all work. This grading policy will be used by all Algebra I/DA teachers in the Math Department. Your grade will be determined using the following percentages:
1. TESTS ( 2 or 3 per marking period) 50%
There will be at least two major tests or assignments each marking period, usually at the end of a unit. If a student misses a test, he or she should speak with the teacher and explain the circumstances. It will then be decided when or if the make-up test will be taken.
2. QUIZZES (5 – 7 per marking period) 30%
There will be announced and unannounced quizzes given during class. Points will be cumulative and totaled at the end of the marking period. Any quizzes that the student misses because of an absence will be his/her responsibility to make up within the appropriate time frame.
3. PARTICIPATION (to include drills, projects and work assigned during the class period) 10%
Students will be required to complete to the best of their ability any drills, projects or classwork. During the quarter, drills and and class work will be checked and may be collected and graded. Students will be required to meet the behavioral expectations for a classroom setting.
4. HOMEWORK ( all home assignments given during the marking period) 10%
All homework that is checked will be considered satisfactory( all problems attempted) or unsatisfactory ( incomplete or not attempted). Any assignment that receives a grade of unsatisfactory will cause the student's homework grade to be reduced by 1/2 percent.
Any additional changes to the policy will follow at a later date.
Students should maintain a notebook for all classwork, drills, class notes and homework.
The final grade will be determined based on the following system
89.5 – 100 A
79.5 – 89.4 B
69.5 – 79.4 C
59.5 – 69.4 D
Below 59.5 E
