Literature

Our last story that we will read is "The Diary of Anne Frank."  It is still important for older readers to begin reading by developing vocabulary, building background about the story and making predictions.  Please encourage your children to bring their literature books home to reread the story.  We either read the story independently or as a class and then discuss what we have read but one read is not enough to comprehend the details of the story.

Summer Reading 2008

6/12/08   By now you should have finished your first book report - the book of your choice.  You should also be about halfway through (or finished) the vocabulary for The Giver .  Make a timeline for yourself to stay on track.  I uploaded the summer reading requirements, check the file section.  Vocabulary = 28 words ÷ 7words a day = 4 days.  Book = 180 pages ÷ 20 pages per day = 9 days.   Answer assigned questions  after reading the required chapters.  Don't wait until you finish the book - complete the questions as you read.  End project, think about how you want to complete the project and begin thinking about your action plan; plan on completing the project and all book related work by August 14th.  You can do this, no sweat!

6/11/08  Hi, Schoolrack's hiccup lasted longer than anticipated so I reloaded the summer reading requirement file.

6/10/08   I just heard from Mrs. Starcher, the 8th grade summer reading list book summaries probably won't be uploaded until Friday morning.  Just in case you have to have that information right now.... I posted the summaries in the file section of this website.   I also put the requirements in the file section.  School Rack experienced a hiccup while I was uploading the requirements, be patient, they'll show up soon.  Hang in there and stay cool.

Greetings!  The summer Reading requirements for 8th grade were distributed Wednesday, May 27th.  One parent/guardian needs to sign the bottom of the front page and return it to me bu Tuesday, June 3rd.

You can check here throughout the summer for updates on the reading reuqirements.  I have recommended that the children read the book of their choice, from the provided list, in June and begin the work on The Giver vocabulary July 5th.  The vocabulary section does take time.

They should check the handout for which questions they need to answer.  It is best if they read the chapters and answer the relevant questions before moving onto the next chapter.

I can be reached at hscher@stjoefullerton.org.  Have a wonderful summer.
