I grew up in Columbia, went to Highland Park and Whitthorne, and graduated from Central High. Most of my family still lives in Columbia. I have degrees from Columbia State and Middle Tennessee State. After teaching math, science, and reading at Whitthorne, I obtained a Masters of Library Science from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University and then did additional college work at Trevecca.
Following teaching and then serving as librarian at Whitthorne Middle School, I came to E.A. Cox when it opened. Having now been a teacher and school librarian since dinosaurs roamed, I have had the parents of many of the present students in classes (though I have not had grandchildren of my original students - yet).
My wife is a microbiologist and works at Maury Regional Hospital as a Medical Technologist. We live in an 1880's Victorian house which has become our continuing project. Our son is in college majoring in music performance playing horn (works with the Horner name) and our daughter who is in high school loves cats, music, drawing, and reading.
At CMS I am ably assisted by Mrs. Wanda Harmon. Mrs. Harmon came to E.A. Cox from Brown Elementary School as the school opened. She is married and has one son. She is also a proud grandmother. Her expertise and energy keep students and teachers at CMS smiling. We are grateful to have her with us.
