Welcome To First Grade!

Remember to look to your Fundations Family Packet for the words introduced in each unit. There are three to nine words in each unit, depending on the length of the unit.

There are 100 words on the first grade list. It is important that you work on having your child memorize these words. Reading these words with ease makes attacking a new story easier for your child, and creates fluency!

Fundations Unit 2 Trick Words:            and         of             the

 Blending: consonant vowel consonant words (cvc)

The students will be blending, reading and spelling

short vowel words, such as cat. Here are some example

words from Unit 2 to come:

cat      sit   cat           sit                   log             fox

Fundations Unit 3: (see Trick Word list )

We will be working on consonant digraphs, and blending them with short vowels. sh, ck, ch, th, wh. The children will be taught to "mark-up" the digraphs with an underline.

  Examples:   wish, chop, shock, sock, this, when
