FCAT Preparation Tips for Parents
1. Ensure that your child gets a good night's sleep before the test.
2. Make sure your child has a nutritious breakfast on test days.
3. Discuss with your child any test review materials which might be sent home.
4. Realize that your child may seem more tired than usual after each day of testing.
5. Elementary students always benefit from being read to nightly, as well as having an opportunity to read to an adult.
6. Express your support and confidence in your child to do well on the FCAT assessments.
7. Help your child understand that testing is a part of the instructional process, and there is nothing to be feared.
FCAT Tips for Students
1. Make sure you understand all the directions given.
2. Be sure you know what you are supposed to do before answering a question.
3. Read each question several times,carefully, before answering.
4. Read ALL of the answer choices before making a decision.
5. If you are not sure of an answer, cross out the choices you are certain are wrong. Then choose your answer from the ones that are left.
6. Check your answer sheet often to make sure you are haven't gotten off track and that you are filling in the answers correctly.
7. If you finish before time is up, go back and check over your work.
8. Try to stay calm on each test day. Take several deep breaths and try to focus on doing the best job that you can. Remember that your parents and teachers believe in you!
