LAST UPDATED

Feb. 15, 2007

Winter is truly upon us! I hope everyone is enjoying the snow (not the ice) and the time at home to catch up on everything from extra ZZZ's to reading a good book etc.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Welcome to my web page! I hope to keep you posted on the various activities that I will be providing for students throughout the school. First, I want to remind you of my days and hours at St. Joseph - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am-3:00pm. You can also reach me by email at gvernick@stjoefullerton.org.

Last week, I had the opportunity to work with 8th graders in helping them to prepare for interviewing and shadowing. Students were able to practice by role playing and received helpful feedback from classmates and me. Judging by the discussion and performances, I am happy to say that the students seem very prepared and hopefully more confident in this aspect of the process.

I have visited the Kindergarten classes and read the book Hands are not for Hitting. Ask your kindergartener the ways that hands are used to help others and show caring and friendship.

Fourth and Fifth graders made a list of rules to live by that stress respect and being good friends to one another. They have all signed a pledge to not bully others and both are hanging on the wall in their classes.

Pre-K parents. By now, you should all have received your invitations to attend the Care for Kids presentation. Allison West, from Catholic Charities will be speaking and answering your questions about this important new program we are providing for your child. The program is on Tuesday, October 3rd from 6:30pm - 7:30pm in the Pre-K area. Refreshments will be provided. I look forward to seeing you!

Lastly, I have begun the  First Grade Lunch Bunch again this year. I thoroughly enjoy my time with each  group of students. They have a chance to visit my office, socialize over lunch and understand how I can be of help to them should they need my support.

Tip Of The Month

Remember to set a regular time every day for homework. If possible, try to designate this time as a time for quiet activities that require thought and effort such as reading. In doing so, you are modeling the kind of behaviors you want to see in your child.
