Classroom Climate
Mrs. Thompson’s
“Superstar” Behavior Management System
In our classroom, each student is given a number during the first week of school. That number will be their place in line order each day and it will also be their star number on their pocket. The pocket will hold 3 star strips which are green, yellow and red.
If a student makes a bad choice, I will give them a verbal warning before they are asked to change their star. If the behavior continues, after the verbal warning, then the student will walk over and change their star from green to yellow in their pocket. This means they will lose 10 minutes from their recess. I will immediately have a conversation with the student about their choices & my expectations. If the behavior continues throughout the day, the student will then change their star to red in their pocket and they will lose 20 minutes from their recess. If the student continues to struggle throughout the rest of the day, they will then remove all their stars and place them on my desk. I will then notify the parent/guardian with a note or phone call home.
On a positive note-if a student is making excellent choices at any time throughout the day, they will receive a “star.” This means the student is going above and beyond my expectations at that particular moment. They may receive as many stars as they earn for that day! Once the student places a “star” sticker in the column with a star, they will receive a reward from our Treasure Box at the end of the day!
Also, any student that has an absolutely positive day and has not changed their card… will receive a special treat from me at the end of the each day along with putting up their "Green Day" sticker!
