Parents of soon to be Slidell High students, please see the following letter regarding scheduling:

January 16, 2010

 Dear Clearwood Junior High Parents/Guardians:

Slidell High School is looking forward to welcoming your child to our campus as a member of the Slidell High School class of 2014.  In an effort to better inform our students and their parents about our curriculum and course offerings as they relate to graduation requirements and post-secondary plans, we will present an informational session at the Clearwood Junior High School PTA meeting on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.

This meeting offers the best opportunity for comprehensive information and advisement on scheduling.  Graduation requirements for students entering high school have continued to change in recent years.  It is essential that you attend in order for us to inform you of these changes and to match course selections with your child’s individual needs.

A copy of the Ninth Grade Course card is also enclosed with courses for a typical 9th grade schedule marked.  Due to graduation requirements, there is little room for electives in the typical freshman schedule.  Please review this information prior to the meeting and make tentative course choices that align with your child’s educational and vocational interests.  After the meeting, we ask that you discuss their options with your child, sign and complete the enclosed course card, and return it to Clearwood Junior High on Wednesday, February 10, 2010.

On February 10, 2010,  the Slidell High School guidance counselors will meet in small groups with your 8th graders at Clearwood Junior High.  At that time, we will review graduation requirements and course offerings and complete their schedules for the 2010-11 school year.  It will be necessary for Slidell High to create schedules for all students who do not complete a schedule through this process.  If you know your child will not be attending Slidell High School for the 2010-11 school year, please notify the SHS main office at 643-2992 by Friday,

April 9, 2010..

We look forward to meeting with you at this very important scheduling program and to having your child become a part of the Slidell High School family.  Additional information to facilitate your child’s smooth transition into high school will be offered at our Ninth Grade Orientation programs in July and August.

                                                                         Sincerely,

                                                                          William C. Percy

                                                                        Principal

Parents, because there are no exams given third nine weeks, the grading scales has changed. It is now as follows:

English: spelling -10%, Daily Grades - 40%, Tests - 50%

Reading: AR - 20%, Daily Grades - 35%, Tests - 45%

REMINDER: No school Monday due to MLK holiday.

Also, a reminder to eight grade parents. The LEAP writing section and math constructed response portions of the test have been split from the rest of the LEAP test. Those sections will be given in March. The remainder of the LEAP test will be taken in April after spring break.

12/16

Christmas parties are Thursday. Please tell your child not to forget their dish for the party.

Friday is a half day. Students will be dismissed at 12.

So I don't forget, everyone have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Enjoy the two weeks of freedom:)

12/6

How about our Saints!!! 12-0!!Laughing

But, now on to the point, I wanted to remind you all that AR is due on Wednesday. Remember that this is 20 percent of the final reading grade so this is major!

11/20

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!! We will be crazy busy when we return to school since we will only have two weeks before exams. Get lots of rest and come back ready to learn! I'll see everyone in a week.

I have posted each 8th grade classes reading schedule for the rest of the nine weeks under the 11/30 week's agenda.

11/9

Veteran's Day program Wednesday!!

Progress reports go home this week.

Please continue to moniter your child's grades on STI and their AR goal on Home Connect.

10/19

Happy fall!!! Aren't you just loving this weather!?!?

The 8th grade field trip is Thursday! Don't forget to bring your lunch, and remember, you must wear your uniform.

10/1

Remeber, no school tomorrow.

A Big Challenge to all of you:

Oh, it's SO on: DonorsChoose.org teachers from around the country have started rallying with a common goal: to inspire 5,000 individuals to support public education by giving to projects on DonorsChoose.org. If 5,000 donors give, an additional $100,000 in funding for projects will be unlocked.

If 5,000 donors are reached and I inspired a specified number of unique donors (i.e. Aunt Sally making 10 donations doesn't count!), I'll get a DonorsChoose.org GivingCard to apply to any project for my classroom - your children.

  • If I inspire 10 donors, you'll get a $100 DonorsChoose.org GivingCard.
  • If I inspire 25 donors, you'll get a $500 DonorsChoose.org GivingCard.
  • If I inspire 50 donors, you'll get a $1,000 DonorsChoose.org GivingCard.

Donations do not have to be much. It really about getting as many people as possible to donate. You have to use the link to one of my projects in order for me to get credit. The link provided below is to get the next book in the series of the Tears of a Tiger book the students enjoyed so much. Please donate if you can and maybe even copy and paste this to friends and family. Any funds I receive will be for projects and supplies for your children.

9/30

I want to give a HUGE thank you to Lakeshore Family Dentistry in Slidell. They saw my request on Limeades for Learning and decided to purchase it outright. An electronic hole punch was delivered to the school today. This is going to make it so much easier for the students to keep there binders organized since we can actually hole punch everything now. (Mine was always jammed.) If you are a patient of Dr. Reine, please let her know how appreciative we are for her generousity. And if you are looking for a new dentist...well....

9/27

Thank you so much to those of you who sent white paper. I have about half a pack left so anyone wishing to send more, please do. Also, it is getting to be that time of year when students get the sniffles. I have two packs of tissue left. Please send some. We don't want students to miss instructional time running to the bathroom to blow their noses.

Another thank you to those who sent in the Limeades for Learning codes. So far I have not been funded but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It ends this week so we'll wait and see. I'll keep you posted.

AR points are due this week. Please check AR Home Connect to see if your child has met his/her goal.

Friday is Fair Day! No school.

Next week is exam week!! Can you believe how fast this year is going??

9/10

Parents, I am completely out of white copy paper.  If you would like to donate a pack or two, I would greatly appreciate it. I try to copy things for the students so that we do not waste class time by having to copy things from the board or book, for example, spelling words or vocabulary.

9/5

From August 31 through October 1, when customers purchase any small to Route 44 fountain or frozen drink at SONIC, they can go online to LimeadesForLearning.com and vote for their favorite teachers’ project. SONIC will fund up to $100,000 of projects with the most votes each Friday during the five-week campaign.

PLEASE SEND ME YOUR CODES IF YOU GET ANY.  I AM TRYING TO GET OUR CLASS SOME NEW BOOKS. ASK FRIENDS AND FAMILY AS WELL. THANKS A BUNCH!

The flu is going around like wildfire. I was out Monday and Tuesday with a sick child. Many students are out with it as well...about 70 kids on monday alone. Please discuss with your child the importance of hand washing in order to prevent the spread of germs. Hand sanitizer may be a good idea!

8/19

I have added a spelling link under the misc. tab which will link you to the spelling lists and games that your child can play to practice for their spelling tests.

Also, be sure to use the Home Connect link in the misc. tab. This will allow you to moniter your child's AR goals. The user name and password is your child's AR log in and password. They know what it is. Just ask.

8/17

Open house Tuesday 7:45pm

Students tested for AR on Friday. They were given a letter which explained their score and AR goal for the 9 weeks. Please make sure that you read it and sign it. These need to be returned this week for a grade.

Welcome back to school everyone!!! I know you all had a great summer and are sad to see it end (trust me, I am tooSmile). However, I am excited to get to know all of the great students that I am sure will be spending time with me this year. I am sure that we will have an exciting and fun year.
