1. Induction Set: T displays pictures of celebrities/models and asks students some discussion questions e.g. Who are your favourites celebrities/entertainers? What do you like best about them? Do you like the way they look? Do you feel bad about yourself by looking at these celebrities and models? T explains that they will be focusing on media-- namely, music/TV/magazines -- that deals with issues of body image, self-esteem, and eating disorders.
2. T plays a song and asks students to just listen to it, taking note of how it makes them feel.
3. T distributes the song lyrics, and plays the song again, asking students to follow along. At the same time, think what the message of the song is.
4. Open discussion - T puts up some questions to discuss the song. Define Anorexia. T asks students if they know what the symptoms are.
5. T shows some photos of celebrities who suffer eating disorders, including the songwriter and poses questions on male anorexic.
6. Then, T distributes an envelope containing the meanings of the lyrics. In their group, they match the meanings with their lines. Then report back session.
7. T distributes a reading passage to each student. Students read individually and do the vocabulary activity. Then, students answer the comprehension questions (if time constrain, set as homework).
8. Conclude by asking students what have they learned? T highlights we should not be influenced by the media and should be confident with your self-image.
