Psychology Research Paper
This research paper will count for 20% of your total grade for the class. We will work on it in class, and for homework. It is imperative that you do the best job you can to ensure a good grade.
Task: write a 5-6 page essay on a psychology topic of your choice, using print and online resources. All topics must be approved by me.
Resources: On the High School website go to the library page. On that page select Magazines and Newspapers. Scroll down to Psychology Collection and do a search for your topic. If you have trouble finding information see me.
Requirements:
- Length - 5-6 typed pages using Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced. See me if you wish to hand write the essay
- Sources – at least 5 different sources
- Works Cited page (which is not counted as part of the essay)

Welcome to Psychology class. Psychology is all about what makes you do the things you do. It is a fascinating branch of the social sciences. We will be discovering some of our motivations through experiments and observations in and out of the class, as well as doing projects based on the material.
The topics we will engage with include:
ü How we learn and how smart babies are
ü Why we remember some things and not others
ü How we learn language and how hard it is
ü What makes us want to do some things and not others
ü Are tests of intelligence valid?
ü What kinds of psychological disorders are there?
ü How many psychologists does it take to change a lightbulb?
ü How influenced are we by others?
ü Psychological development from infancy to adolescence
ü How we perceive reality – is it all an illusion?
ü What happens when things go wrong?
