General Information

Dear Scholar Bowl Parents:

Please see the schedule below for our 2009-2010 meets.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009                   4:00        Clay Chalkville Middle School

Wednesday, November 18, 2009              4:00        Rudd Middle School

Wednesday, December 9, 2009                 4:00        Erwin High School

Wednesday, January 20, 2010                    4:00        Irondale Middle School

Saturday, February 6, 2010                          8:00         Jefferson County Meet/Central Office

As in the past, when it is our turn to host the district meet, we will need to bring snacks and drinks for our students and guests that will be visiting our campus.  I would like to ask a parent to volunteer to coordinate the food for our meet.  That would be a huge help which would be greatly appreciated!  You can contact me by email, dianebailey@jefcoed.com or call me at 601-0768.

Also, we want to try to carpool as much as possible to save gas and help parents who may not be able to provide transportation to the other school meets.

For the Jefferson County Tournament in February, I am allowed to only bring six students to participate. The only fair way I know to choose the County team is to base it on participation of morning practices and area meets.  Every time we practice, your child will sign in, as well as sign in at the area meet, so we will have documentation of their attendance.

Practice will be in my room, 109, from 7:15-7:45 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  I gave each Scholar Bowl member a pass to my room for those days, so they should not have any problem getting down the hall.

Lastly, I would like to reward our students for their hard work and effort by taking them all on a field trip in the Spring.  We will discuss those plans and try to finalize everything by the time of the County Tournament.

Tip:  History.com and NationalGeographic.com have trivia games students can play on the computer to help sharpen skills.

"A" and "B" teams

Hello Parents and Team Members!

In order to allow all the team members a fair chance to play at the regional matches, I've decided to divide the team up into an "A" and "B" team. The B team will participate at the upcoming regional match at Rudd, the A team will participate at the Erwin match in December, and the B team again at the Irondale match in January.  All the members are encouraged to be at the matches to help support those team members who are competing and to get the experience of helping to keep score and time.

Hope this helps give everyone a fair chance to get an equal amount of time to play.

Mrs. Bailey
