Overview: In Unit 1, students will be introduced to the scientific study of psychology. Students will learn what psychology is and how psychologists go about adding to the discipline’s existing body of knowledge. A variety of methods such as; lecture, note taking, small and large group discussion, projects (survey creation and implementation, interviews, observations, and development of hypotheses) will be used in teaching and evaluation. An exam will be given at the end of each Chapter consisting of multiple choice, essay and short answer. All final and midterm exams will be comprehensive.
Chapter 1 – What is Psychology? Presents the goals of psychology, the kinds of work those psychologists do a brief history of psychology, and contemporary perspectives in the field of psychology.
