Class Goals

Recorder Karate is the recorder instruction resource for 4th and 5th grade music. In this program, students work at their own pace and test on a song when ready. When they pass the test, they receive a ribbon (Karate Belt) and move on to the next song.

Students are expected to practice 15 minutes five days a week.  Recorders and music folders should come home everyday.  Home practice forms should be signed weekly by a parents or caregiver for the student to turn in at music each week.  The Home Practice Form can been downloaded by clicking on Files on the music homepage.

Fourth graders may practice online by clicking the link below.  Once you are on the Music K8 website find the blue box that says, "Students click here to practice."  When you click on that link, type in the user name--karate and the password Mrs. Smith gave you in class.  If you don't know the password, see Mrs. Smith before or after class to get it.  Fourth grades songs are online.  http://www.musick8.com/rkdojo/rkdojo.tpl

Fifth grade can continue playing the 4th grade songs as well, but new songs are added for 5th grade belts.  Click on FILES at the top of this page and select the song you want to hear.  You may hear just the melody or melody plus the accompaniment.

Recorder Purchase

Fourth and Fifth graders will be learning to play recorder, a small flute-like instrument,  through a program called "Recorder Karate".  Each student will need their own recorder to take home each day for a daily 10 minute practice time.  The "Angel" Recorders are here.  If you prepaid and ordered one please pick it up from the music room.   A few extras have been ordered and may be purchased from Ms. Smith on a first come basis for $6.00 each.

Each 4th and 5th grader also need a 1 inch 3 ring binder for their music.  This binder and recorder should be kept in their bookbag and go home everyday for practice.
