Welcome to English 12-1.  This semester we will be studying British Literature, including short stories, drama, poetry, nonfiction, and essays.  We will be reading works by Chaucer, Shakespeare, Wordsworth, and others.  Our studies will also cover grammar, composition, and vocabulary.  I look forward to a successful and interesting semester with each of you!

In order for us to work well together there are certain expectations I have of you.  They are simple and few:

1.      You will bring your notebook, pencil, pen, and textbook with you to class unless told otherwise by the teacher.

2.      You will be in your seat ready to begin class when the tardy bell rings.

3.      You will be courteous to each other and to the teacher.

4.      You will punctually do all assignments to the very best of your ability.

5.      You will follow the code of conduct and dress for Pickens High School as outlined in your Student Handbook.

You only need to buy a few materials for this class:

A supply of #2 pencils with erasers.

A blue or black ink pen.

A three-ring binder notebook with loose-leaf paper.

Grades are determined very simply in this class.  Daily grades and quizzes are recorded once in the grade book and tests are recorded twice.  At the end of the grading period all grades are then added together and divided by the total number of grades.  This determines your nine weeks’ grade which is eighty-five percent of your final semester grade. Your final exam at the end of the semester is worth fifteen percent of your semester grade.  If you or your parents have any questions about grades, please feel free to talk to me.  My planning period is third block, from 11:15 to 1:15.

Again, I look forward to working with you.  I hope you share the pride I have in our school facility and resolve to take care of it.  Please be involved in school activities and get the most out of your high school career.
