Testing Tips

Before the Test:

  • Be Confident
  • Be Prepared
  • Stay Relaxed
  • Be well rested

During the test:

  • The counselor will have plenty of sharpened pencils and scratch paper for you to use.
  • Be sure to follow directions. Read all directions and listen to your teacher for directions.
  • Use your time wisely. Skip difficult questions but be sure to return to them in the end.
  • Read all questions and every answer choice before deciding on the best possible answer.
  • Make good guesses. Narrow down the choices until you can make your best guess.
  • Stay in order. Make sure you stay on the same answer line as question. Keeping a sheet of blank paper as a marker will help reveal one row of circles at a time.
  • Check your answers. Some students circle difficult questions then go back to them later when they have time left at the end.

After the test:

  • Celebrate. Taking tests like this requires a lot of mental energy! Consider treating your child to a special meal or movie rental.
  • Share the results. When you recieve a copy of your child's test scores, make sure you understand them. If you need help reading them, see your child's teacher or the counselor.
