Class Rules
1. Be in your ASSIGNED SEAT ready to begin work when the tardy bell rings
2. Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
3. Bring all appropriate materials to class.
4. Keep food, drinks, candy, and gum out of the classroom unless given special permission by the teacher.
5. Take care of all personal and physical needs before or after class on student time, not CLASSROOM TIME!
6. Do NOT talk or communicate through the doorway to anyone in the hall! (This includes teachers and students)
7. Sleeping or the appearance of sleeping is not acceptable.
8. Follow directions the first time they are given.
9. Nuisance items such as notes to other students, jewelry, magazines, work from other classes, make-up, etc. which prevent students from staying on task will be taken up and returned at the teacher or principals discretion.
10.Demonstrate respect towards the teacher, other
students, and yourself.
MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLASS
1. Science book
2. One three ring binder with the dividers full of lined loose-leaf paper.
3. Agenda book for hall pass, recording assignments and grades, communication between parents.
4. Pens (blue or black) and plenty of pencils
5. Colored pencils
6. Calculator (basic, inexpensive)
7. Highlighter
8. Any color sharpie or marker
9. Composition Book for Lab ReportsĀ
ADDITIONALLY HELPFUL, BUT NOT REQUIRED MATERIALS
1. White out tape or pen
2. Mechanical pencil sharperner
3. Small personal stapler
4. Glue stick
5. Index cards
6. Ruler
MAKE UP WORK AND ABSENCES
The responsibility for finding out about make up work lies solely with the student. Upon returning from an absence, the student may get assignments from a classmate, from the class file make-up folder, or see me after class or school. Copies of worksheets will be located in the class file folder. Other bell work or class work assignments must be obtained from a responsible classmate. I will not use instructional time to give missing assignments unless this can be accomplished without interfering with regular classroom instruction. MCHS policies will be used for make-up work due to absence.
GRADES
Grades will be given for the following:
1. Tests
2. Class work
3. Homework
4. Participation
5. Lab work or Projects
A cumulative point system is used to determine the student's grade which will be a percentage, based on his/her total points. The highest percentage of the grade will be based on his/her performance on tests. There will also be at least one major project each semester. Your child will also be taking an End of Course exam in April at the end of the year which will count as 15% of the second semester average.
EXTRA CREDIT
Every student has the opportunity to receive one point each day for the following:
1. Appropriate writing utensil
2. Paper
3. TEXTBOOK!
4. Agenda book
5. Participation
6. Cooperation with Classroom Rules and Procedures
FAILURE TO BRING REQUIRED ITEMS AND TO FOLLOW ALL CLASSROOM RULES AND PROCEDURES OUTLINED WILL RESULT IN DEDUCTIONS FROM EXTRA CREDIT POINTS. FOR EACH 9 WEEK PERIOD, STUDENTS CAN RECEIVE 1 POINT FOR EACH DAY IN THE QUARTER AS OUTLINED BY SHELBY COUNTY CALENDAR.
BELL WORK
The first 5 or 10 minutes of class will be spent completing a short assignment. This may be in your textbook or from the overhead. It is pertinent that you begin this assignment immediately. These assignments will be checked and graded randomly without notice through bell work test or notebook checks. BE PREPARED AT ALL TIMES!

Your behavior should reflect the following principles:

1st offense: Student warning/ Short term removal from class
2nd offense: Phone call to parent
3rd offense: Office referral
