Leaf    Collection

 

·      This is required to pass Botany

·       You must turn in 75 DIFFERENT leaves

·       Turn in dates are November 20th (early) or final date December 4th !!10 points off for each day late after December 4th!

·       All must be identified correctly

·       Leaves are to be kept in a new photo album

·       There MUST be a table of contents with page numbers included.

·       All pertinent information about the leaf must be completed.

·       Know the difference between compound and simple leaves.  You will be counted off on this.

·       Leaves must be put in the book neatly and typed or written about neatly.

·       This grade counts 50% of your 2nd 9 weeks grade (that is 25% of the final grade).  If you do not do the collection you will fail!!

·       Use leaf identification books at school, the library, the county extension office or buy one from a book store.

·       Extra points can be obtained by identifying wildflowers or rare tree leaves not from this area.

·       Begin work on this immediately!!  Do not wait until November or you will be doomed!!

·       Work with other students.  Find a partner on this project.

·       Do slow quality work; not fast, sloppy work.

·       When looking for the information for the leaves you find, make sure that it is found in this area.  Trees that normally grow in Japan usually aren’t found here!!

·       Get parents and grandparents involved.  This should be a family project!!  They will be excited that you asked them to help.

·       Places to look for leaves:  1). Your house 2). Your neighbors yard (with permission) 3).  Jamie L. Whitten Center wooded area 4). Area near the Amory Lock and Dam 5).  ICC campus  6).  IAHS campus
