"There's no excuse for not trying"

Teaching Philosophy

Math is for everyone.  I believe that every student is capable of doing math.  I strive to create a classroom environment that is accepting and respectful.  It is okay to make a mistake.  It is okay to be smart.  It is okay to ask for help.  I have high expectations for my students, but I am accomodating to individual needs.  Parents are encouraged to take part in the math education of their child, so contacting me by phone or email is always welcome.  I love math and learning- I look forward to teaching my sixth grade students this year!

Background Information

This is my sixth year of teaching math at the middle school level.  After teaching 8th grade for one year in Melrose Park, I came to Heritage Middle School to teach Math Plus which I taught for two years.  Two years ago I joined the 6A team and am excited to start another year teaching 6th grade (my favorite grade!).

Before becoming a teacher I had earned my bachlor's of science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in Civil Engineering.  I worked for about two years at an envirnonmental engineering firm in Chicago.  I decided that I wanted to become a teacher (something I always knew I wanted) and went to National-Louis University to get a Masters of Arts in Teaching.  I haven't looked back since!

Many students ask me if I am a Cubs or Sox fan.  Neither!  I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, so my loyalty remains with the Cincinnati Reds.

Finally, I want to let all my new students know how excited I am to start another school year!
