Homefun and in-class assignments

Homefun is assigned about twice a week.  We usually grade it in class and then it is turned into me.  If complete and work is shown, 10 points are earned.  If work needs to be redone because work was not shown or the assignment is late, 8 points can be earned.

Homefun and assignments are worth 40% of the final grade.

Quizzes, Tests, and Projects

A "quizito" (small quiz) is taken most Fridays.  Tests are given at the end of a chapter or unit.  At least two days notice will be given for tests.

Quiz, test and project grades are worth 30% of the final grade.

Participation

Students are evaluated for participation when doing warm-ups at the beginning of class, working in-class, or doing group work.  The grading rubric is as follows: 5 points for working on-task, 3 points if one reminder is needed to get on-task, 0 points for being off-task and not working.

Fully participating in class is the number one way to be successful.  Not only will students earn participations points, but the activities done in class help to build a deeper understanding of the math concepts.  Participation in class will make homework easier and leads to greater success on quizzes and tests.

Participation points are added together and are worth 30% of the final grade.

Supply List

Pencils! (I prefer mechanical so you don't have to worry about sharpening, but standard pencils are okay too.  No pens, please.)

2 yellow folders (I will collect one and keep it in the classroom to be your "portfolio".  The other you can keep to use for keeping your papers organized.)

2 yellow notebooks (You need both right away.  One is for warm-ups, the other for notes.)

1 binder (big enough to hold the 2 notebooks and some loose leaf paper.  Speaking of paper...)

Loose leaf paper or Graph Paper

Scissors, glue stick, markers (I know it sounds strange for a math class, but we often do things with these supplies.  I suggest getting a pencil pouch or other organizer to put all of this in so it stays together and you don't lose them)

optional: Dry Erase Markers (we often use personal sized dry erase boards in class.  I have markers to borrow, but you may want to have your own)
