Grading Policy

All test grades will be weighed equally with the exception of the nine weeks exam, which will count 25% of your child's grade. This exam is usually given on the last two or three days of the nine weeks.

A homepractice grade will be given. Students are responsible for doing homepractice each time it is assigned.

The following is the grading scale for Maury County Schools.

A - 93-100

B - 85-92

C - 76-84

D - 70-75

Your child will be given a progress report at the end of four and a half weeks and a report card after the nine weeks grading period is over.  Please sign and return  these reports as soon as possible.

Typical Class

Each class will begin with bell work.  Bell work consists of three to five questions each day that will be answered on provided paper. The questions will always be related to the standard of the week and the standards previously learned. Thus, we are constantly and consistently reviewing every standard in preparation for the TCAP test at the end of the year.

After the students correct their bell work, I will check the homepractice from the previous night. At that time, I'll explain anything that they didn't understand.

The remainder of the period will be spent practicing and applying the standard of the week.

We will regularly do formative tests, which will allow me to see what the students are/are not learning so that I will know what to reteach.

Your child will be given a handout on each standard which will be placed in the standards folder. That folder should be brought to class every day. You can help by reviewing the standards with your child every week.

Also, we will do a great deal of writing in this class. By writing paragraphs and stories, they are able to apply what they have learned. Plus, we are helping them to get ready for the 5th Grade Writing Assessment Test, which will be given in early February.

I do expect my students to behave and learn. After all, they are here to learn. Disruptive behavior will not be allowed.

Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns. (nealc3@k12tn.net)
