THE PRESIDENT'S POEM

THE PRESIDENT’S POEM
Written by Carolyn Hicks1993
Washington's first,
Adams is second,
Jefferson, Madison, Monroe.
Adams, J Q, Jackson, Van Buren,
Just thirty-three more to go.
Harrison, Tyler,
Polk, Taylor, Filmore,
Pierce, Buchanan, and Lincoln.
Johnson and Grant,
Hayes, and Garfield,
And lately I've been thinkin'
About Arthur and Cleveland,
Harrison B.,
McKinley,Teddy Roosevelt,Taft
Wilson and Harding
Coolidge and Hoover,
Boy, am I going daft!
Roosevelt, Truman,
Eisenhower, Kennedy,
LBJ at his ranch.
Nixon and Ford,
Carter and Reagan,
Bush -  this list has gone fast.
And Finally, we come to Mr. Bill Clinton,
Boy am I glad that he's last.
Excuse me, what did you say?
You think that there might be more?
You're right, because the recount said
It surely wasn't Al Gore.
I hope this is the last of the rhyme, and
The last we hear of election.
G. W. Bush is President now.
The people have made their selection.
And now the Election of 2008,
A precedent is set.
Barack Obama is elected
The first African-American President.
