PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSE DESCRIPTIONS PHYSICAL EDUCATION I (¼ credit) Physical Education I promotes physical fitness through total body movement and adventure programming. Students will be afforded opportunities for individual physical development in the areas of strength, flexibility, coordination, endurance, balance, agility, range of motion, and power. Students will gain knowledge in proper exercise techniques and practices, cooperation, good nutritional habits, basic muscle anatomy, and elementary cardiovascular physiology. PHYSICAL EDUCATION II (¼ credit) Students will enhance physical fitness skills obtained in Physical Education I to participate in the Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment. Additionally, students will demonstrate basic competence of locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative skills through participation in lifetime activities and team sports. PHYSICAL EDUCATION III (¼ credit) Students will refine physical fitness skills obtained in Physical Education I and II to develop a personal physical fitness program. Students will use advanced locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills and strategies through participation in lifetime activities and team sports. PHYSICAL EDUCATION IV (¼ credit) Students will hone physical fitness skills obtained in Physical Education I, II, and III to improve the personal physical fitness program. Students will use advanced locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills and strategies with more complex movement skills through participation in lifetime activities and team sports. |
