As an educator, I believe it is essential for every student to feel comfortable in the classroom so that learning can be achieved. My classroom environment will be warm and inviting through decorated walls and exposure to materials that enrich learning. As the example and role model, it will be important for my students to see a smile on my face and a genuine enthusiasm each and everyday. The classroom environment should be a place where students feel free to engage in conversation with the teacher and with their peers to help foster development and learning. I value children having self-confidence, and the way that this can be achieved is by incorporating different learning styles into my teaching methods. Every child learns in a different way, and it is critical for me to acknowledge and incorporate these different learning strategies. Cooperative grouping is one methodology I believe to be highly beneficial. This method fosters students of all learning abilities in both academic and social growth. I believe an outstanding classroom works to perfect both worlds of a student, academic and social, thereby creating self-confidence. Showing and treating students with respect is another way I plan to impact the learning environment of my classroom. This can be implemented through the tone of voice used with students and a genuine sense of caring. I don’t believe that yelling or ridiculing students is the means to solve discipline problems. It is important as a teacher to listen and value what a child is saying because it models respect for them.
It was my childhood dream to become a teacher. I love the idea that my job will be unpredictable and will give me the opportunity to make a difference in students’ lives each and everyday. I look forward to helping students and meeting the demands of a challenging profession.
