2nd Grade Curriculum

This year we will be reading from a 2nd grade textbook.  Sometimes homework will include practicing reading aloud.  Be sure to return these books!  We also will be completing 2nd grade math from a brand new series that is in line with Florida Testing Standards!  Science and Social Studies will be taught, although content may be modified a bit due to limited vocabulary development.

Reading Plus as well as Accelerated Reading will be required of all students.  Right now, until these systems are set up, I ask that you complete a weekly report of the books you have read with your child.  By the way, you are doing a fantastic job!

What's new for April for K-2

Please note that our class will be doing SAT Testing and FAIR Testing this week and next week.  It is important that your child arrive at school ON TIME and well rested for the next two weeks.

On Wednesday April 20th we will be celebrating Earth Day since there is no school on Friday April 22nd.  Our project this year will be to collect any clean paper that we would ordinarily throw away at home and at school for the next 10 days.  Please set aside a box and remind your child and the rest of the family to put used sheets of clean paper in this box.  Your child should bring the paper to school next Wednesday.  We are learning about waste and recycling.

Finally, we will celebrate the Spring Holiday on Thursday April 21st with a party.  I am asking that each child brings three hard boiled eggs in a sturdy container on Wednesday April 20th.  These eggs will be dyed on Wednesday and found on Thursday at our party.  Also, if you can send candy, juice, cupcakes or donuts for the party on Thursday the students can fill their stomachs and baskets with these.

Finally, Author’s Gallery is coming up.  We will be working on writing individual books to share in the evening with our parents.  Look for information in the coming weeks for Authors Gallery/Parents’ Night.
