Welcome to Third Grade!  My name is Stephanie Briefman.  This is my second year teaching third grade at Bayou View Elementary and I absolutely love it.  I'm very excited and honored to teach third grade at such a wonderful school!  Throughout this website, you will find what we are studying, the lesson plans for the week, homework, spelling and vocabulary words, upcoming dates, news, and who's in the spotlight.  You will also find a link to a second classroom webpage which will host classroom pictures as they are taken throughout the year.  If you have suggestions for the website, please let me know!

Our Monarch Butterflies Migrate

Our class is participting in an online collaborative project with other classes from the US and Canada.  We created paper butterflies that will migrate to Mexico and then will migrate back to the US.  The link below connects to the project website.  In Spring, the butterflies will be sent north.  We will not receive our own butterflies, but another class' butterflies.  However, the class that receives ours will indicate it on the map, so we can see where our butterflies landed.  Later in the year, we will be learning about the lifecycle of the butterfly and its migration.

Graded Papers:

Graded papers and behavior/grades report will be sent home each Thursday in the Bayou View Elementary Take Home Folders.  Please sign and return the behavior/grade report and each mixed practice test sent home.

Snacks:

I would like to have a snack time for the whole class. Our lunch time is not until 11:55. If you are able to send in healthy snacks for the whole class, that would be appreciated.

Monday: Math and Reading/ Language Mixed Practice Test

Tuesday: Science Unit C Chapter 2 Assessment

Friday: Spelling, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, and DLR Test

Weekly Tests:

Monday:  Reading/Language Mixed Practice Test and Math Mixed Practice Test

Friday: Spelling, Vocabulary, DLR, and Reading Comprehension

Reading: We will be reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Park, as well as studying sequencing, cause and effect, and text features.

Spelling:  We will be studying  homophones, antonyms, and synonyms.

Language Arts: We will be focusing on the writing process, irregular verbs, verb tense, and subject verb agreement.

Math: We will be studying multiplication/ division fact families and 1-2 step word problems.

Science: We will be studying  soil and natural resources.

Social Studies: We will be studying about our government.

Your child will be receiving a new spelling list each week with activities to do each night. Please check your child's homework folder Monday to see their spelling list.
