Classroom Rules

 

·        Be kind and respectful.

·        Share and work cooperatively with others.

·        Be responsible.

·        Always be neat and do your best.

·        Follow all school rules and procedures.  

About My Class

 

·        Homework-You should expect that your child will have some type of homework most everyday.  You will always find the homework assignments written on the homework/behavior log (located in a page protector in the front of your child’s binder).  It will go home everyday.  I encourage you to set up, with your child, a scheduled time for homework each day.   Students should be able to do most assignments independently, but do help if it is completely necessary.  If you notice that your child is not able to do an assignment on his or her own, please  contact me.  Every Monday students will be placed in the “Homework Club.”  Every day your child does his or her homework, he or she remains in the club.  If he or she remains in the club for an entire week, your child will receive a sticker.  Once your child’s sticker chart is full, he or she will receive a special treat.  If a student misses a homework assignment, he or she will be removed from the club.  However, every Monday all students are placed back into the club, and the process continues.  This gives students numerous opportunities to receive a reward for being responsible.

 

 

 

 

 

 

·        Behavior-You and your child will be able to keep track of his or her behavior by use of the behavior log.  If a rule is not broken, the child receives a green (Go!) card for the day.  At the end of the day, your child will circle his or her color if he or she is on green.  However, if one warning is given, the child receives a yellow (Warning!) card, and the student will lose five minutes of recess.  If two warnings are given a blue (Consequence!) card is given, and the student loses ten minutes of recess.  If three warnings are given, the student receives a red (Stop!) card.  Consequently, you will be notified of the inappropriate behavior by receiving a note or a phone call.  If your child receives a yellow, blue, or red card, I will circle his or her color with a pen.  I will either initial the color, or I will write a small note indicating why the card was flipped.  Please review the behavior log daily.

 

 

 

 

 

 

·        Rewards-Each time our class receives a compliment for their behavior, a pom-pom will be placed in our jar.  When there are 50 pom-poms in the jar, a special treat will be given.  Exceptional behavior will be rewarded with a phone call home, a special prize, choice of seating at lunch, verbal praise, etc.

 

 

 

 

 

 

·        Accelerated Reader (AR)- AR was designed to create a love of reading in children of all ages and to enhance reading comprehension.  Your child will be assigned a reading level goal (determined by his or her reading range), a point goal, and a test average percent correct goal for each 9 weeks.  The test average percent correct will be 85% for everyone.  The average is based on your child’s AR tests, which are taken on the computer at school.   There are no consequences for not making the term’s goal.  However, if your child reaches all of his or her set goals (reading level, point, and average percent correct goal), he or she will be rewarded with a special treat at the end of the term.  Students will be allowed to check out books throughout the week, as well as on our library day.  If you wish, you may check out books with your child before school or at the local library.  Students will be given an AR folder that is kept in the classroom to take tests and log his or her progress.  At the beginning of each term, I conference with each student to set new goals.  The goals will be recorded in your child’s AR folder, so that he or she can refer back to the goals throughout the term. 

 

 

 

·        Binders- Please check your child’s binder every night.  In the front of the binder, there is a page protector that contains the weekly study sheet and the homework/behavior log. 

 

 

 

·        Snack:  All students may bring a nutritious snack (examples: fruit, pretzels, crackers, etc.) and a bottle of water to school everyday.  Please do not send water bottles that have twist-off caps.   Please also give me a heads up at least a day ahead of time if your child is planning to bring a nutritious treat for his or her birthday. *No sugar will be allowed in the classroom.

 

 

 

 

 

 

·        Morning Work- Our morning work will consist of mixed practice questions in reading, language, and math.  Amble time is provided to complete the morning work in class.  After the class completes that day’s problems, we check over the answers with a red pen.  I always tell the students to try their best.  Therefore, I do not take the morning work for a grade.  Please look through the papers and discuss missed problems with your child.
