English Class Update (Emailed to Parents November 21, 2011)
Hi Everyone!
First, let me say “thank you” to all the parents who braved the rain to come and meet with us this past Thursday for the first Parent-Teacher Conference Night. It was so nice to put faces to the names, and I’m sure the same was true for you. Our team was one of the teams in McCourt who had the best turnout of parents, so thank you for making us look so good!
In English class this week, we played a newly invented game of Human Tic Tac Toe. Kids were assigned to write sentences for their vocabulary words using inference clues, our reading strategy of the week. I then read them a sentence, missing its vocabulary word, and the first team to answer correctly could put a “Pawn” on the giant Tic Tac Toe board. It was lots of fun! To see pictures, go to our Shutterfly (http://msbinnsenglishclass20112012.shutterfly.com). There are some Team Meeting and Pizza Party pictures there as well. This week and next, we are continuing our reading of the novel, Lost and Found, and will soon begin a writing piece to go along with it.
If you haven’t seen your son’s or daughter’s report card, look for it in the mail. They were mailed out this week. Also, for those of you who have accessed Aspen, I believe Quarter averages are available there as well.
Some dates that you should be aware of:
- Monday November 28 – Gummy Bear Lab due in science class
- Tuesday November 29 – Columbian Exchange Project due in social studies class
- Students with Special Education services should be coming home with Quarterly Project Reports on Monday.
- Final Parent-Teacher Conference Night – Tuesday November 29th from 6 – 8 pm
That’s all the news fit to report right now. Keep in touch, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
