Mar. 1  Read Dr. Seuss stories

Feb 29  Read "Stopping By the Woods"  on p. 516 and "Mending Wall" on p. 526 and read the parody "Mending Test" on p. 528 . View Robert Frost Video.  Complete worksheet on Frost.  Write 5-sense poem.

March 5   Write critical essay on one of Dr. Suess' stories.

Mar. 6  Assess essays.    Write Five -Sense Poem and W-W-W-W-W poem

Mar. 7  Learn Haiku and Limerick and write an example of each.

Mar 8  Read "Courage" on p. 512 and explicate the poem.  Choose a poem  from the text and explicate it.  Present the explications on Mon.

Mar 13-15  Oral explications in class.

Mar. 19  Learn alliteration and write Blotz poem.

Mar 21  Go to the library and find 3 poems and the lyrics to a song about a chosen theme.  Print and put into portfolios.

Mar. 20   Read various free verse poems and then write a free verse poem.

Mar 22   Read "Legend," p. 530  Learn narrative poems and write narrative poems or rewrite the Night Before Christmas  with a new setting and language.

Mar 24  Write rhyming poem (12 lines min. )  Finish narrative poems.

Mar 28  Type and put together portfolios.  Due Wed.

March 29   Take Poetry unit test.

Mar 30.  Poetry reading day.  Share poems.  Turn in portfolios

Mar 9    Begin Drama Unit.  View and answer questions from video.  Create a list of 10 personal values and rank them.  Read "Story of Oedipus" on p. 688.

April 10  Assign parts and read Antigone Prologue and Scene 1.  Analyze Creon's inaugural speech (see worksheet).  Do first page of Antigone worksheets--Conflicts.

April 11   Read and discuss scenes 2-3 of Antigone.  Do second page of worksheets.

April 12  Read scenes 4, 5, and Epilogue.  Finish worksheets.

April 16   Test on Antigone.

April 17   Write in journal on "What would you do if you were a genius?"  Find grade level.  Discuss human development and begin novel Flowers for Algernon.  Edit  the March 5 progress report, finding and fixing the 35 errors in the first paragraph.

April  18  Read and discuss novel.   Answer the study questions and the word study sheet.

April 19 Read to page  40

April 23  Read to page 76 of Algernon and complete study questions through #10.

April 24  Turn in punctuation rules worksheets.  Read to p. 108 .  Study Q  to #13.
